YouTube has rolled out new creator tools for Shorts on both Android and iOS, enhancing how users can customize their video thumbnails. Creators can now personalize their thumbnails with text, filters, and emojis, making it easier to select and edit thumbnails after uploading their Shorts. This feature builds on recent updates, such as the ability to automatically pause video playback.
In a video shared on the Creator Insider channel, YouTube detailed the rollout of these new customization options. When selecting a thumbnail for a Short, creators will find two new floating icons in the top-right corner for adding text and filters.
The updated features allow for greater aesthetic control, giving creators the tools to make their short videos stand out across devices. However, these custom thumbnails will only appear on search, hashtag, audio, and pivot pages.
Additionally, YouTube is reportedly exploring further enhancements for thumbnail options in Shorts for next year.
