The Opera browser for Android is set to introduce an exciting new feature that leverages artificial intelligence (AI) for image-based search queries. This capability will be integrated into the browser’s AI assistant, Aria, as part of Opera’s ongoing AI Feature Drop initiative. While this feature has been available on the desktop version, this update will extend its functionality to mobile users.
Exciting New AI Features Coming to Opera for Android
In a recent blog post, the company shared details about these enhancements, emphasizing their goal to help users better understand the content of images. The new “Image Understanding” feature will be accessible within the Aria chatbot interface, which can be opened from the sidebar. Users can upload images by tapping the “+” icon when the Aria side panel is active.
After an image is uploaded, Aria employs advanced computer vision technology to examine it and address user inquiries. For instance, if a user uploads a picture of a windmill, the AI can provide a detailed description of the image.
Opera has noted that users can upload up to three images simultaneously and receive responses about each. However, queries must be made in text format. It’s important to mention that the image understanding feature can only provide answers based on the content visible in the uploaded images. Users can also ask follow-up questions, allowing Aria to search the web for additional information.
The computer vision capabilities extend to text recognition as well. For example, if a user uploads an image containing a math problem, Aria can analyze it and provide the solution. Additionally, users can request Aria to create new images inspired by their submissions.
This feature is part of Opera’s AI Feature Drop program, which introduces new experimental features every two weeks. Currently, Image Understanding is available in Opera Developer builds, with plans to roll it out to all Opera users in the future.
