Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta Platforms, has revealed that Instagram will soon introduce a new feature allowing users to publicly comment on Stories. This update will let users leave comments on Stories for a limited time, aligning with Instagram’s recent rollout of new fonts, text animations, and the launch of Instagram Creator. The lab in India serves both English and Hindi speakers.
In a post on his Meta Channel, Zuckerberg shared that this new feature will work similarly to the comment section on regular Instagram posts. Comments on Stories will disappear after 24 hours, matching the temporary nature of the Stories themselves. However, it’s still unclear whether users will be able to save or archive these comments.
Previously, users could only respond to Stories through private messages sent directly to the story creator. With this update, comments will be public, depending on the visibility settings chosen by the user.
According to a report by The Verge, Instagram users will have the option to enable or disable comments based on their preferences. It has yet to be confirmed whether the feature will be available on both Android and iOS versions of the app.
The move to add comments to Stories is part of Instagram’s broader plan to boost user engagement. Adam Mosseri, head of Instagram, has previously emphasized the platform’s focus on short-form content, as it tends to drive higher user interaction.
